As Sjon Jones noted, our chefs, particularly John, take great pride in preparing meals that come out piping hot and are made to order. Beyond the food, Triumph African Restaurant & Market also serves as a grocery stop for anyone looking to recreate their favorite dishes at home. The market offers a selection of essential African spices, iyán (powdered yam), and beloved Nigerian snacks like chin chin, along with drinks such as fermented palm wine. This dual concept of dining and shopping makes Triumph a unique destination for both food enthusiasts and cultural explorers alike.
The warmth of our staff adds a personal touch that keeps customers coming back. As reflected in Michelle Robinson's comments about the friendly service and the heartwarming interaction with our chef, community and hospitality are at the core of what we do. Whether you’re ordering ahead for a quick pick-up or enjoying a meal at our cozy establishment, your comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities.
So whether you're a local or just passing through Fresno, make sure to stop by Triumph African Restaurant & Market for an unforgettable dining experience. Allow us to take your taste buds on a journey through the flavors of West Africa—we can't wait to welcome you!
Talk about a hidden gem!!!! You have got to try this! Just don’t be in a rush, this is home cooking not fast food fare. John cooked the most delicious savory food! I had the jollof rice with spicy goat meat and pounded yam with ogbono also with spicy goat meat. Everything was made fresh and came out piping hot. Drinks are bottled beverages you self serve from the fridge and they charge you for at the end of your meal. It’s also a shop that carries staple goods African cooking spices and iyan (powdered yam) Nigerian snacks like chin chin and palm drink (fermented palm wine) Definitely eating here every time I come Fresno. They also do catering!!!
Came here tonight while we were in town and definitely recommend if you are in Fresno! We’ll be back here whenever we come into the area. A young man helped us and he was very nice! I had the Jollof rice with a drumstick. Surprisingly it came with green leaves (bitter leaf?) which I wasn’t expecting but it ended up being my favorite element of the dish! Yum! My husband had his fav, egusi. He had it with goat as this was the young waiters suggestion. He enjoyed it with pounded yam. I will say it was warm inside the restaurant but the staff did what they could to make us comfortable inside.
I love to stop here when I’m in Fresno! The best, and i believe-the only West African Restaurant in the Central Valley! Can’t go wrong with spicy chicken and jollof rice or simple meat pie for first timers, but the cow leg and fish pepper soup is to die for!!! And the fufu is a MUST! Ordering ahead is probably best if in a hurry, everything is made to order. Mercillina also supplies a respectable grocery selection so we also like to stock up on the palm oil and palm wines happy eating!
Very kind chef . Great experience and food.
We can smell. How delicious the food was gonna be upon walking into the restaurant. The owner came out and greeted us and talked with us and told us the origin of the history of the place. We had a great conversation with her.She was very kind and the food was delicious. The food had so much flavor. We drove from Farmerville and we definitely will be going back. It was our 1st time and we even ordered food to go because it was so delicious
Courteous host and large portions. Rice bowls can probably be eaten over a few days or be shared between 2 people. I ordered the joloff rice with goat, rice and beans with chicken, and a meat pie. The joloff rice has deep tomato herb flavors and was nicely paired with 3 savory goat pieces. Rice and beans has a nice savory flavor and was served with two braised chicken legs. The chicken was braised in a thick sauce that had onions in it. The meat pie is definitely something to try. Meat pie has ground beef and shredded carrots. One reviewer commented that they're a bit pricey. However, If you account for the labor and ingredients used to make these dishes then, I would say the prices are fair. The jollof rice and goat is deeply seasoned, so I can imagine they used a lot of spices and herbs. Overall eating experience was great. One thing, I would suggest is braising the goat skin longer. The goat skin was too rubbery and had to throw it out. I give this place 5 stars and would come back again when visiting Fresno area.
Tried another new place! I love trying food from different countries, cultures and different cuisine! This restaurant has been on my radar for a while. I ordered online which was very simple, and was met very kindly when I arrived I ordered: (copy and pasted from my online order) TRIUMPH CHEF'S SPECIAL: 13. Pounded Yam Choice of Soup:: Egusi Soup; Make it With:: Chicken And RICE ENTREES: 2. Jollof Rice (Spiced) Make it With:: Chicken And whew! Its spicy and very flavorful! I didn't know what to expect as this is the first time eating Traditional African food, and its delicious! The spice is no joke, I grew up in a Mexican household, with roasted habanero salsa smoking out the house, and this food put my taste buds to the test! The pounded yam has a unique texture and flavor, it reminds me of masa used for tamales but softer and has a really light almost potato like taste. It definitely helps ease the spice! I've never eaten a single thing my dishes were made with other than rice and chicken! And I can happily say I'd eat it all again! Thank you for a great experience!!
Every time I come here I get Chicken w/ Egusi soup and 2 pounded yams for 32 and every time it gives what it is supposed to be given . Marcilina usually greets me w/ great customer service and conversation and the food is always served hot and tasteful w/ enough for me to have a bite for later. The food is a bit pricey but as you see I keep going back lol. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to try African food for the first time because my first, second and third time here were all a great experience. Thank you so much for the experience Marcilina xo
